Whites of Southern Burgundy
Mâcon-Montbellet 'La Bergerie', Cave Talmard 2015 - Mâconnais
I have to admit it, this was Boxie's find last summer whilst touring and researching the wines of his beloved Mâconnais. And what a find it is, well done! Bright, super-fresh green apple notes and expressive floral aromas from the fabulous 2015 vintage. Usually such elegance and richness would have you believe you were experiencing a wine from Côte de Beaune (at more than twice the price!). Stainless steel fermented & aged.
Pouilly-Fuissé 'Sur la Roche', Domaine Delorme et Fils 2013 - Mâconnais
Pouilly-Fuissé is recognized as the top commune of the Mâconnais and the vineyards on the steep slopes of 'La Roche' mountain are literally the top (or highest) for miles around! Elegance and minerality abound here with good fruit content which is balanced by a touch of gentle oak aging. This is a very small production estate now run by the charming Christian Delorme with the help and valuable experience of his father.
Montagny 1er Cru, Château de la Saule 2013 - Côte Chalonnais
The Château de la Saule property is owned by the well known Burgundian 'character' Alain Roy. Here only Chardonnay fruit from 100% 1er Cru vineyards is used. Greenish gold in colour with attractive and complex aromas of white flowers & a touch of dried apricot. Subtle minerality offers a very pleasant palate and an impressive finish. Minimal oak contact.
